The county broke road into the 3’s. Temperatures are slowly warming with slow settling of snow.

The winds ease and temperatures rise and some melting begins-even mud. All day digging out but cows get fed. Hopefully the county can open the road to 3’s tomorrow. I walked in about a mile to break water.

The ‘Big Blow’. SW winds blow us all shut-remarkable. First day all winter we did not get animals fed.

Strong SW winds blow all night and persist into the day. Winds bring slight warming, but not warm enough to cut the snow. Cows doing OK, yet there has been a slip in condition.

Winds persist yet measurably subside. Ryan got stuck twice and pulled out with Rick’s tractor. All feeding did get done by noon, despite snow drifting complications.

Cold SW winds return in force all day. More drifting, yet main roads didn’t fully plug with packed snow. Traveled to Winnett for ACES meeting.

Another cold morning but the winds remain calm to the great relief for all of us, including the cattle. The bull I dropped unbelievably returned all the way to where I found him yesterday over the night. That is where he will stay, and hopefully do OK. Ryan double feeds tonight, so he can have more work done on the truck tomorrow.

Very clear and very cold in the morning with uncomfortable SW early, yet warming into low teens by mid-afternoon. Ryan took truck into town for work but back to feed in late afternoon. Dana heads to Bozeman. I did get the last bull close to corrals, but he fought me a bit, and I had to drop him. I saw a few redpolls, while bringing the bull.

Clearing skies over night brings bitter morning temperatures. Brief SW winds moved a little snow in the morning, and then mercifully let up, followed by a crystal clear, cold day. I again hiked back into paddock with bulls and finally located 2 bulls at the far NW corner. I trailed them home. While both bulls have lost some condition, they had not fallen off badly, which I feared. I think, I know where the last missing bull is located, and I will try to get him home tomorrow. Despite the cold, the longer days have triggered the hens to start producing-in the last week two days yielded over a dozen eggs.

Cold and grey with light snow. Storm slowly moves off followed by breaking clouds, offering our first sunset  for almost a week. I shoveled (see photo) my way into the 3’s to break water and refresh mineral. Ryan passed with feeding today, allowing both groups to clean up their straw from the last two days. I tried again to find three bulls left in the timber, but again unsuccessful.
