Weather: Some cooling with evening thunderstorm bringing scary lightning yet enough thankful moisture to avoid fires.
WG (11): 15 bulls
EG (12): Moved into first split in EG 12. Opened 2nd split on the 28th, and opened a new split into EG 11 to provide enough grass for 3 days as both Carlyle and I had to leave the ranch.

Weather: Some cooling with evening thunderstorm bringing scary lightning yet enough thankful moisture to avoid fires.
WG (11): 15 bulls
EG (1): No moves, yet I fence off north side of paddock to pressure cows to the southeast side of paddock where feed is very good. Curlews appear to have left yet still seeing upland sandpipers. Six splits in EG 1.

Weather: Just hot.
LS (11): 15 bulls
EG (1): Moved bulls into Little Switzerland paddock (11) near corrals. Large acre splits mean less moves. “Graze tall” favoring selection over harvest efficiency.

Weather: Soft morning breeze triggers some slight cooling.
WG (11): 15 bulls
EG (1): Second split. Bird songs drop off. When robins quit singing marks the near end of another season.

Knighthawks darkness dives
Barn Swallows breaking silence
Night and morning merge

Weather: Hotter and more wind
WG (11): 15 bulls
EG(1) (348): Cows move into EG () to stronger and softer feed to keep animals on upward trend in condition. Actually our timing corresponds to effective use of marm season grasses like Little Bluestem and Prairie Sand Reedgrass.Bulls will be in within the week. Carlyle and Ryan hold down the fort while Dana and I family at Neely’s on the edge of Cliff Lake. Ryan comes face to face with a rattlesnake and escapes unharmed-not so for the poor snake the now victim of a chance unfavorable encounter.

Weather: Very hot with wind at times.
WG (11): 15 bulls (plan to sell 3 bulls this week)
L (15) (348): Calvin and I moved cows to the west side of L15. One Pelan bull got in with cows. Jay got the bull out later in the day. A few cows got bred (155 +). Amanda, Carlyle’s lady friend Amanda arrived last night for a week’s stay. Ranch camp ends as folks head to Paradise Valley for one night and then Neely’s. Dana and I plan to meet up at Neely’s for a couple days starting tomorrow the 18th. And we do.

Weather: Unsettled weather ending for the short term. Moving into warmer and drier conditions for the coming week to 10 days.
WG (11): 15 bulls (plan to sell 3 bulls this week)
L (8): Daily moves-around 50 acres/day.  Leaving more crested wheat behind us as it dries out, yet not a problem in July as our priority is improving cow condition for breeding versus optimizing harvest efficiency. Cows are consuming around a ¼ to 1/3 pounds of protein supplement. A perfect Shakespeare in the Parks night on Monday the 11th was attended by everyone on the ranch.
