Weather: Woke to a clear smoke-free morning. Lovely
Where: Cows (215 + 130 2’S + 66= 415) in BW-2. 415 X 1.6= 664 AD daily demand. Bulls (22) LS-1 (15 acres)
Supplement: 3 + 1

Another 40-acre split. Cows relaxed and nice even pressure on water leaving tank near full all the time. Despite the pit being open for backup recharge for Lackey Well the pit remains full. The improved 2” and 3” inch pipeline is making a big positive difference in water delivery. Still some snipe and curlews hanging around near spring area in WG-12.

One 40-acre split. Tyler continues to inventory stockpiled feed as we further assess the growing damage from hoppers. Enjoyed a fun and informational ACES sponsored “pasture walk” at the Mckenna’s ranch to dive deep into nutrition supplementation.

Moving north in paddock with close to 40 acres. Fair amount of forage left in last split. Daily moves to fresh feed working well in evening out access to water-slow steady back and forth of cows and calves coming to water allowing tank to stay full and all animals getting a good drink.

Second split (18 acres) along creek bottom. Feed is very dry and straw like, yet cows are cleaning it up. Trailed 7 bulls into the main group in the afternoon. Wonderful Olympic opening ceremony in France had us all glued to the TV.

Weather: By evening and after some threatening thunderstorms temperatures take a grateful dip.
Where: Cows (215 + 130 2’S + 66= 415) in BW-1-2. 415 X 1.6= 664 AD daily demand. Bulls (22) LS-1 (15 acres)
Supplement: 2 + 1

Cows move into BW-2 (32 acres) after breaking out.
Lesl from USDA APHIS arrives to do adult hopper inventory at three sites. One site in EG was up to 51 per square yard. Very serious problem that has just kept growing over the season. A lot of stockpiled feed is “melting” away. We are in the process of inventorying current available ads to see how demand and supply will be balanced (or not) from now through April-knowing the hoppers are not done.

Cows move 2 times (20 + 24 acres). A flock of 20 ravens often seen floating around the ranch. A unusual group of over 12 upland sandpipers have been hanging at corner of Griffith Road-two families with successful fledglings likely merged.

Weather: Just more of the same just with three digits.
Where: Cows (215 + 130 2’S + 66= 415) in BW-1. 415 X 1.6= 664 AD daily demand. Bulls (22) LS-1 (15 acres)
Supplement: 2 + 1

Cows get two splits (24 + 25 acres). Salt consumption is almost zero-natural salt for area in soil and greasewood. Increase of winterfat over the years (small high protein semi-shrub) has been remarkable. Twice daily moves. Working with BJ on alternative water for calves.
