Weather: Another modestly cool breezy day.
Where: Cows in WG-8; Yearlings in EG-12.
Both groups moved to new splits. Checked out riparian shrub planting along creek in EG-12. Three willows and 26 buffalo berry plants are thriving. Need to build on this success. Maybe explore the “Tiny Forest’ concept being applied around the country where one plants a small dense diverse stand that helps to protect the shrubs and trees.

Weather: Mostly warm and dry for the period.
Where: Cows in WG-8; Yearlings in LS-16.
No moves today. Protein consumption still too high with the cows. Leopard frog numbers in house pond continue to amaze visitors. Need to get advice on what will happen when it freezes-maybe we can move some to other ponds on the ranch.

Last few days have been full of workshops and events. Natalie and Nell were here at the ranch for two nights as we attended with Tyler the WWF/RSVP gathering in Billings. Please see photo of her lost then found phone-amazing re-capture. Some fun windshield time in the Toyota moving animals. Livestock moves went to two-day moves during the period. Ryan was able to transport the four corral bulls to Billings narrowly avoiding being damaged by one while loading the trailer. All’s well that ends well.

Two splits for cows (3 splits so far in WG-8) and one split for yearlings, Wade was able or get bull out of Yearlings. Plan to ship cull bulls on Wednesday. I have been seeing more Harriers (marsh hawk) of recent. Why do we have so much fringed sagewort this year?

Errant bull found in yearlings. Either Wade or I will get him captured tomorrow.

Cows move to last split in WG-5 and heifers stay put. Bull snake arrives to fog pond-the
“headquarters’ wetland” is getting more complex. And what about that starling guano?
