Weather: Almost 90-yikes.
EG (3): Transitioning still. Feed in 3, that we grazed earlier in the season, appears almost un-grazed in some areas of paddock. What is this paddock telling us about potential for regrowth during the same grazing season.

Weather: Warming up again.
L (15): Transitioning over to the EG unit.

Weather: NW breeze brushes over a clear and mild day.
L (9): One move today. Getting close to leaving Lackey and heading back to East Griffith. While building a new split through backside of EG 1 and 3 on way to EG-4, I am surprised-even startled- by the amazing and abundant re-growth. Apparently, the storm back in 8.25 dumped a lot more rain on this part of the ranch.

Weather: Cool and calm.
L (9): Moved into L-9 at two split a day until 22nd, then just single splits. I return on the 22nd following Confluence Conference in Chico.

Weather: A bit drab, dreary, dry, mild, and, I might add, smokey. .5” of rain on 16th.
L (10): One- and two-day splits are made over the period. I leave on the 15th for California.

Weather: A bit drab, dreary, dry, and, I might add, smokey.
L (10): Sustaining two moves a day at 15 to 20 acres per split. Two splits a day surprisingly seems to best optimize harvest, impact, and performance. If our timing is good pairs appear relaxed and full. If we can do it in L-11, which takes about 30 minutes to just get to, we should be able to do it anywhere on the ranch. The key is having a committed and curious apprentice.

Weather: Warming back up yet cool mornings seemed locked in place.
L (10): Four splits the last two days. Time to focus on impact and harvest efficiency. Harvesting crab apples. Dana takes down one more porcupine (13 killed + catch and release) drawn nightly to the ripening tomatoes. Is it just the scent of the garden that draws them from the hills? August 20 to September 10 is the ideal time for moisture to optimize fall re-growth for our cool season grasses. Missed that window as 2” of rain + cool weather is the best formula for triggering some volume. Next 10 days is next best window-after that the prospects for growth dim.

Weather: Much cooler-hoodie weather-with some light showers.
L (11): Two splits. Steve Ory from RCC Partnership comes to talk bulls. Feeling a bit mixed about Lackey. Long rest occurred with not so much rain. A little more fringed sagewort, snakeweed, and three-awn than I would like to see-all warm season low succession natives.

Weather: Again, a cool morning with a blast of heat and wind in late afternoon. Some cooling on the way.
L (11): No move today due to yesterday’s breakout.

Weather: Again, a cool morning with a blast of heat and wind in late afternoon. Some cooling on the way.
L (11): Cows broke out last night. Able to clean thing up yet the cows are enjoying an ample 50-acre split. Carlyle and I remarked that it has been some time since we have had a breakout. A Good thing. Warblers moving through the yard and garden. And it is time to pick our crab apples.
