Cold with more light snow piling up-maybe 3 to 4 inches. No grass splits for either of the two cow groups.

Light snow all day with gusty winds in the evening.  It is a feed day for the cows. Ryan got 8 out of 10 bales out and then a clutch pin broke. He was able to limp back, and we asked Rick to feed the young cows.  I opened EL6 for pairs to drift into after feed was cleaned up.

Overcast, cool, but mostly calm. I made next move with YCs. I tuned up fences in EL 6 for preparation for next move. Elk or antelope had broken a few wires.

Overcast with cold SE winds. I checked the cow groups while Ryan worked on the corrals for weaning prep. Hubbard feeders delivered calf-weaning pellets into our borrowed bunk feeders. All is good for now, as we await the next winter blast. I am making daily moves with the young cows in SNG7.

Chilly but calm. Only move was the next split for the 2’s and 3’s. Remarkable support offered up from our many partners and neighbors. Three different hay contracts were delivered. Stan and Steve from Vidic drillings helped work on the well. Florin built an alternative approach off the County road for winter access. Dave, from McCleary distributing topped off our car and house fuel. And, BJ, replaced a leaky hydrant with a more reliable and solid riser. Without our partners we would not have a business. Always grateful!

Light snow in the morning. Ryan and I worked together to get the cows fed. I will leave cows in EL5 thru Thanksgiving and feed on Friday, and then move to a fresh paddock. Yesterday we noticed low water pressure for the corral tank, and had Stan come to check the corral well. Bad news. Well capacity seems to be seriously reduced. This news set off a cascading series of questions and proposed actions.  To add insult to injury, I accidentally messed up some wires under the dash of my truck, preventing it from starting, and thus, a three-mile walk home to end a chilly afternoon. Tomorrow we will see how our re-plan goes.

Strong gusty and uncomfortable NW winds all day. The 2’s and 3’s move into 3rd split with 2 bales fed at different times to prevent hay blowing. Cows are hanging on east end of EL5. We hope to get protein hay supplement feed to them tomorrow. Ryan and Casey
got their elk on the Raths with great support from Jeff.

Windy and sort of mild. I finally moved the cows all the way east to 2nd split on EL5.  To much community work to do smaller splits.  I moved 2’s/3’s into 2nd split in SG7-2 bales of hay for them.

Very mild and clear. Cows broke out last night after being fed and headed into WL6&7. I heated the cell center so cows could not get to water until I let them in. Eventually all back in EL5 without too much effort. The 2’s and 3’s moved into 1st split out of corrals after 2 bales of hay. They are getting more relaxed as fence training begins.

No major weather changes. I traveled to Bozeman to look at small houses and MSU school of Architecture to explore some options for apprenticeship housing. Everyone stays put. Cows get their hay a day late.
