Cows move to 4th split. This whole north sandy area of L (8,9,19, and 11) harboring a troublesome presence of Japanese Brome. With more help and time, I would do multiple daily splits to knock more feed down. Chickadees, starlings, rock doves, and Huns with occasional RL Hawkes seems to be our stripped down current resident bird crew…

Cows and Pfister groups both move. Need to be paying attention to pine trees at Pfister’s as cooler and wetter weather begin to settle in. Attended memorial service for Victoria Seitz’ Mother Helen. Flushed a short-eared owl while moving cows an event not so common of late.

Late afternoon I opened the first split in L-10. Feeding calves on the backside of LS-2. Larger splits due to roughness of terrain. We harvested 13 Ad/acre in L-11.

Cows cause me some self-inflicted angst mostly resulting from being in a hurry. How quickly one can lose it…and how quickly you can get it back. Four coyotes observed returning home. Lovely Christmas dinner at the Adolph’s.

All group move to 2-to-3-day splits allowing for less chore time over Christmas. Tyler heads to Colorado for a few days. Cows move to last split in L-11 the farthest paddock from the headquarters. Nice to get this ground grazed during mild weather. Observe Prairie Falcon on way out of paddock. I finally have almost all bulls (except two) located with the fence hot in BW-2.
