History

The Beginning

Picture

We bought the ranch in 1978.  We drew from Bill's experience spending summers on his father's ranch, The Beartooth, near Helena, Montana.  The early years had a significant amount of trial and error but with the support of friends and family, Milton Ranch became our new home and Roundup, Montana became our community.

The Early Years

Picture

As our family grew, we began to adjust to the adventures of living on a ranch.  We learned to be flexible when the rain didn't fall as much as we wanted or the grasshoppers decided to vacation at the ranch.  As the kids began playing sports, we learned the importance of the school to a small rural town and we became active in the community.  During this time, we began to learn about holistic management and the great importance of a healthy relationship between the land and the animals.

As the years continued to fly by, the health of the land remained a top priority.  We began establishing partnerships with people of similar goals.  As those relationships grew, so did the health of our land.

Today

Picture
After more than thirty years on the ranch, we have made wonderful progress improving the health of our land and cattle.  With succession in the future, it is clear that the values our family has learned while growing up on the ranch have had a significant impact.  With our children grown and our grandchildren visiting the ranch often we continue to see the great importance of this piece of land in central Montana.  As we move forward, we continue to strive for a symbiotic relationship between our land, animals and family.
